The ODM party has made it clear that it is not involved in any impeachment efforts targeting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Party chairperson Gladys Wanga stated that the leadership is not aware of any such plans.
“We know nothing about any impeachment discussions,” Wanga remarked.
She added that any Member of Parliament is free to introduce a motion, but emphasized that the party’s parliamentary group would address it if that occurs.
Wanga made these comments while speaking to reporters in Kisumu, urging the Deputy President to focus on his responsibilities as a national leader.
She pointed out the pressing challenges facing the country, such as high unemployment rates and uncertainties in education and healthcare.
“It’s surprising that the DP chose to discuss matters like who was removed from which WhatsApp group on national television. This is not what our country needs,” she said.
“Kenya belongs to all of us, and every citizen should have a voice in national development. The DP must understand that he represents the entire country, not just one region.”
Wanga called for Gachagua to concentrate on significant issues affecting Kenyans, such as the challenges faced by fishermen in Lake Victoria, the struggling sugarcane industry in Western Kenya, and the urgent need for job creation.
She emphasized the necessity of unity among leaders, stating, “This is not the time to search for kingpins.
We need national leaders to come together and tackle the issues facing our citizens.”
Homabay Governor Wanga also urged Gachagua to follow the example of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who she described as a leader for the entire nation.
Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu echoed these views, suggesting that the Deputy President is undergoing a “Damascus moment” and expressing hope that he would renounce divisive comments.
Buyu highlighted the importance of leaders rising above local interests to serve the nation as a whole.
