A road accident in the Kinungi area along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway has resulted in one fatality and left 30 others critically injured.
The incident occurred on Sunday, December 22, when a bus traveling from Nairobi overturned on the highway.
St. John Ambulance confirmed the tragedy, stating that a rescue team was quickly dispatched to the scene to assist with extracting those trapped under the wreckage of the bus.
The injured passengers received first aid at the scene before being transported to Naivasha Sub-County Referral Hospital.
“One person has died, and 30 others are in critical condition after a bus, full of passengers traveling from Nairobi, overturned in the Kinungi area along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway,” said a statement from St. John Ambulance.
“Our trained community first responders provided initial treatment and assisted in transferring the injured to the hospital.”
Images and videos from the scene showed the bus overturned, blocking the road, with local residents helping in the rescue efforts.
Traffic officers later arrived to manage the heavy congestion caused by the accident.
This crash comes just over a week after another accident at the same location, which left seven people with serious injuries.
On December 10, a seven-seater van lost control and collided with an oncoming lorry.
St. John Ambulance responded by dispatching a first aid team from the Kinungi Highway Community to assist the victims, who were later transferred to Naivasha Hospital.
“Seven passengers were injured after their van collided head-on with a lorry in the Soweto area, a known blackspot along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway,” St. John Ambulance confirmed.
