In Migori County, the police, working together with investigators from the police headquarters, have taken down three suspected criminals and arrested three more as part of their ongoing effort to tackle criminal gangs.
Migori County Police Commander, Peter Kimani, revealed that on Thursday night, three of the nine suspected criminals were killed in a shootout with the police in the Suneka area.
During the operation, the police also recovered an AK47 gun.
Kimani explained that officers from Migori, in cooperation with their counterparts from Nairobi, tracked the gang from Isebania to Suneka.
They successfully neutralized the criminals after a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Tragically, one of those killed in the operation was a pastor from Isebania, who was part of the gang.
Earlier in the week, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department arrested three suspects and confiscated a pistol, 58 rounds of ammunition, and various crude weapons, including a machete, a knife, and an axe, in the Mabera area.
According to Kimani, for the past week, the police have been pursuing this criminal gang that has been active in Migori, Kisii, and Homa Bay counties.
He also mentioned that the gang has associates in neighboring Tanzania.
The gang, known for using three motorcycles, has targeted several traders, with the most recent incidents occurring in Muhurubay in Nyatike sub-county.
