In a concerted effort to contribute to the ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032, set by President William Ruto, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the Spouse of the Deputy President, spearheaded a tree planting initiative with Bomet University College students on Friday morning.
During the tree planting event, Pastor Dorcas emphasized the significance of such activities in addressing climate change for the future.
She expressed her belief that by greening the environment, they are laying the groundwork for a better tomorrow.
In her words, “To green your environment and the country is the future.”
Addressing the students directly, she acknowledged them as the future caretakers of the environment, expressing joy as a mother, envisioning a future where their children live in a healthy and sustainable environment.
Pastor Dorcas highlighted the impact of past negligence towards the environment as a contributor to the current challenges posed by climate change worldwide.
In her ongoing efforts, she has been visiting various higher learning institutions, including Chuka University and Maasai Mara University, engaging with students in both discussions and tree-planting activities.
Beyond environmental concerns, Pastor Dorcas seized the opportunity to address a pressing national issue—substance abuse.
She urged the students to steer clear of drugs, emphasizing the importance of focusing on their studies for a brighter future.
Bomet Governor Dr. Hillary Barchok joined the initiative, calling on the students to brainstorm additional ways to combat climate change.
The collaborative effort between Pastor Dorcas Rigathi and Bomet University students reflects a commitment to environmental sustainability and the well-being of future generations.
