Police in Nakuru County are investigating the circumstances under which a 24-year-old man was found dead in a river in Kuresoi South Sub-County.
A team handling the incident said preliminary findings are pointing to a suspected suicide.
The deceased was identified as Dickson Koros, a resident of Saptet Village.
According to police, the incident was reported on Tuesday afternoon, prompting officers from Olenguruone Police Station to visit the scene at Daraja Mbili River, where they found the man’s lifeless body floating in the water.
The body was retrieved and examined at the scene. Police said there were no visible physical injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Koros had been living with diabetes for a prolonged period and had reportedly shown signs of depression before disappearing from his home earlier on the day he was found dead.
Investigators are treating the case as a suspected suicide, although the exact circumstances surrounding the drowning are yet to be established.
The body was moved to Olenguruone Level IV Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have urged members of the public to seek timely medical and psychological support for people experiencing mental health challenges while investigations into the incident continue.
And the body of a man who was reported missing after a drowning incident in River Nyando was recovered in Nyakach Sub-County, Kisumu County.
The deceased, identified as Fredrick Odiwour Yogo, was found floating in the river on Wednesday, bringing to an end a search operation that had been underway since the incident was first reported.
According to police, the body was spotted in Wasare Sublocation, Rangul Location, approximately nine kilometres downstream from where the drowning was believed to have occurred.
With the assistance of local residents, the body was retrieved from the river before police officers documented the scene.
The remains were subsequently moved to Pap Onditi Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where they are awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the drowning are ongoing.
The recovery adds to a series of drowning incidents reported across the country in recent days, with authorities continuing to urge the public to exercise caution around rivers and other water bodies, especially during periods of high water levels.
