Police in Matungu Sub-county, Kakamega County, launched investigations into a suspected murder after a fresh grave was discovered at a homestead in the Koyonzo area.
According to the police, the suspicious grave was spotted within the home of a 54-year-old man who had been reported missing since May 16, 2026.
The missing person report had earlier been recorded at Koyonzo Police Station.
Police visited the scene and secured the suspected gravesite pending further investigations.
Police said preliminary findings revealed that a worker employed by the missing man had also disappeared under unclear circumstances.
Investigators are expected to seek an exhumation order to allow the suspected body to be removed for identification and postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, a manhunt for the missing worker has been launched as detectives pursue possible leads into the disappearance and suspected killing.
And police in Maara Sub-county, Tharaka Nithi County, are investigating the suspected murder of a 50-year-old man whose body was discovered in Murugi East Location.
The body of Elias Kimanthi was found on Sunday night in Baragu Village.
The deceased was identified by his brothers, who said he had been living alone after separating from his wife.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had earlier been accused of stealing fencing posts from a farm belonging to a neighbour identified as Pius Mwandiki Nyaga.
Police said the neighbour, accompanied by a village elder, allegedly confronted Kimanthi at his home and attempted to escort him to Ntumu Police Station after recovering one fencing post.
However, the deceased reportedly dropped the recovered post a few metres from his home and fled.
His body was later discovered about one kilometre away from the homestead, lying half-naked on its back.
Investigators also recovered a torn T-shirt believed to have been worn by the deceased.
Crime Scene Investigation officers processed the scene before the body was moved to Chuka Level V Hospital mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.
Two suspects were arrested to assist detectives with investigations into the death.
