Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested two notorious criminals who had been terrorizing the public along the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway.
According to the DCI, the suspects had been operating in the area for a long time, targeting and robbing unsuspecting individuals of their valuables.
The arrest followed a well-coordinated operation by DCI undercover agents, who tracked the criminals to their known launching point.
“Three criminals who have been robbing people along the Kisumu-Nairobi road near a local company were arrested by undercover officers from Kasagam Police Station,” the DCI stated.
The detectives revealed that the trio, part of a larger five-member gang, used crude weapons to carry out their robberies.
However, unaware of the sting operation set up to apprehend them, the criminals attempted to attack officers with their weapons, only to realize too late that they were outmatched by armed police.
The police opened fire in response.
The three suspects were fortunate to survive, as they surrendered when surrounded by officers.
Two of them were taken into custody, while one is receiving treatment for injuries.
The DCI noted that two other gang members, who were not present during the operation, are being actively pursued and urged to surrender.
“Outsmarted, three of the five surrendered, dropping their weapons, while the other two fled like frightened warthogs,” the DCI said.
“The latter have been identified and are being sought, with a call for them to surrender at Kasagam Police Station.”
The two arrested suspects, aged 22, are in custody awaiting arraignment, while the 27-year-old is being treated for injuries.
Investigations into the criminal gang’s operations are ongoing, and once completed, the suspects will face charges in court.
These arrests come after a series of violent robberies along the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway, which had caused significant distress among the public.
Many locals had been forced to adjust their routines, including closing businesses earlier, to avoid falling victim to the gang’s activities.
