This sparked a fight for minutes as the groups clashed.
The leaders’ convoy retreated and used a different route as they headed towards Ngong road at about 2.30m.
Police arrived with water cannons and tear gas canisters that they used to disperse the demonstrators.
The convoy regrouped and headed towards Ngong Road where more chaos were expected.
Tens of police officers were waiting for them.
Other leaders including Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah were present and braced for the clashes.
Raila said they will soldier on with their fight and urged his supporters not to give up.
