A police officer who was about to retire was on June 22 brutally murdered in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County in a suspected love triangle.
The body of Corporal Joseph Kahungu Wambugu was found lying in a pool of blood at Turasha shopping center where he had gone to buy cigarettes at around 7 am.
Police said they are investigating the motive.
According to police, the deceased, who joined the service in 1983, was set to retire on October 24, 2023.
The body had multiple deep cuts on the face, neck, and left shoulder.
His right hand was chopped off at the wrist and his right leg was also chopped off from the ankle joint.
Members of the public informed the police who rushed to the scene and rushed him to the nearby Turasha dispensary but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations established that the deceased left the police staff quarters to buy cigarettes when he was confronted by John Thiong’o Kinyanjui.
Police said they had launched investigations and arrested the suspect’s former wife who is assisting with investigations.
“The motive of the murder is suspected to be a love triangle.
A woman identified as Tabitha Wanjira Thiongo, the suspect’s estranged wife, was arrested for interrogation,” police said.
Cases of murder related to the love triangle are on the rise.
