Police are investigating circumstances under which a popular shoe shiner was found dead near Laico Regency Hotel, Nairobi.
The body of Andrew Ogolla Tabu, 44 was found by guards at the premise on Monday night.
Ogolla had been at his place of work behind Eco Bank Towers for the better part of Monday and had planned to board a vehicle to his Kasarani home.
It is not clear what transpired for his body to be found at the scene.
His colleagues at the shoe shine site said they left him there on Monday evening as he prepared work for the following day.
The guards at the hotel said they were patrolling the premise when they found him lying motionless at about 11 pm.
They tried to wake him up in vain.
It was then they called the police who moved the body to the mortuary.
His wife was later called to Central Police station where the news of his death was broken.
Ogolla also dealt in second-hand shoes.
He had on Sunday escorted his child to join form one.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the incident.
He said a postmortem is planned on the body to establish what killed him.
“We do not know if he was hit or dropped there or killed elsewhere. We will know,” he said.
