At the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Tanzania, President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga engaged in a vital dialogue with fellow African leaders, all united by the shared goal of advancing the continent’s energy future.
During his speech, Raila Odinga, a candidate for the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), delivered a powerful address, outlining his vision for transforming Africa’s energy landscape.
“I am not just seeking a position; I am fighting for the future of every African,” Odinga stated, emphasizing the urgency of transitioning the continent toward sustainable energy solutions.
He spoke passionately about Africa’s rich natural resources sun, wind, and water and how they hold the potential to end energy poverty across the continent.
“I dream of an Africa where every home, every school, every hospital is powered by clean, renewable energy.
This is not just a dream, but a necessity,” Odinga continued, outlining his vision to invest in the infrastructure required to light up Africa’s future.

Drawing from his personal experiences, Odinga reflected on the harsh reality many African communities face, where power shortages are common, and children study under the dim glow of kerosene lamps.
“This is not the Africa I want to see,” he remarked. “I will fight with everything I have to bring reliable electricity to every corner of our continent, especially to those who have been left behind.”
Odinga also acknowledged the looming threat of climate change, urging Africa to not only adapt to but lead the global battle against environmental degradation.
“Africa will not be a victim of climate change, we will lead the world in creating sustainable solutions,” he declared.
He further vowed to advocate for a global transition to low-carbon economies, ensuring that Africa’s future is built on renewable energy.
However, Odinga underscored that such monumental change cannot happen in isolation.
He called for unity across Africa, stressing the importance of collaboration between governments, the private sector, and international partners.

“Together, we will build an energy future that is resilient, inclusive, and prosperous for all Africans,” he stated, appealing to the gathered Heads of States and Governments for their leadership in driving Africa’s renewable energy agenda.
As he wrapped up his impassioned speech, Odinga extended his gratitude to the heads of state and stakeholders present at the summit, recognizing their leadership as essential to creating a sustainable and energy-secure future for Africa.
He called on all Africans to join him in this transformative journey, harnessing renewable energy to uplift communities and showcase the true potential of the continent.
With this rallying cry, Odinga invited his fellow Africans to stand together and work towards a brighter, greener future, one powered by the abundant renewable resources Africa has to offer.
