President William Ruto attended the episcopal installation of Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a Gachihi as the Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, a significant event held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
The Military Ordinariate is a unique jurisdiction within the Catholic Church, dedicated to providing spiritual support and pastoral care specifically for members of the armed forces.
It functions similarly to a diocese but is designed to meet the distinct needs of military personnel, ensuring they have access to spiritual services no matter where they are stationed.
During his address, President Ruto emphasized the crucial role that the church plays in promoting national unity.
“Our gathering today underscores our commitment to supporting our armed forces in every way possible, including spiritual guidance,” he stated.
He highlighted that a faith-based support system is vital for instilling and upholding the values that inspire servicemen and women.
The President further reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the military.
He assured attendees that the government is focused on modernizing military equipment and enhancing facilities to better serve the armed forces.
“To our military personnel, it is my prayer that as you protect our nation and serve humanity, both in Kenya and beyond, you remain dedicated to your noble duties,” Ruto added.
The event not only marked a significant moment for the Military Ordinariate but also reinforced the partnership between the government and the church in fostering a supportive environment for the armed forces.
By providing spiritual care, the church plays an integral role in ensuring that military personnel are guided by strong ethical and moral values as they carry out their duties.
This collaboration aims to enhance the resilience and effectiveness of the armed forces in fulfilling their responsibilities.
