President William Ruto is set to receive a warm reception this week as he embarks on a tour of the Nyanza region, starting Wednesday.
This visit follows his recent formation of a broad-based government, which has been enthusiastically received by local MPs, Senators, MCAs, and leaders from the region.
The President’s decision to include leaders from the lakeside region in his administration has been praised as a positive move for the community.
Many local leaders expressed eagerness to collaborate with Ruto’s government in fostering unity, diversity, and inclusivity.
This trip marks a significant moment, as it is Ruto’s first major visit to an area traditionally seen as a stronghold of Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Historically, Ruto’s presence in Nyanza was met with resistance, but the political landscape has shifted.
Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang welcomed the visit, stating that the President is always welcome in Nyanza.
“We are grateful for the President’s recent gestures towards our region and assure him of our full support,” Kajwang told People Daily in Kisumu.
Similar sentiments were echoed by other local leaders. Kisumu Governor Prof.
Anyang Nyong’o, Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko, and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga all voiced their enthusiasm for the President’s visit.
Ayacko expressed hope for collaborative efforts to advance development in Migori.
While Wanga highlighted the beginning of a new era for Nyanza, signaling a fresh chapter in political and developmental relations with the State.
