Questions are being raised about how a police officer lost his rifle in his house in Nairobi’s Mathare slums.
The officer was Thursday arrested after his official firearm got lost in mysterious circumstances.
Constable Peter Nderitu attached to Muthaiga police station alleged he had left his Scorpion rifle with 30 bullets in his house Thursday morning and went to buy medicine but when he came back he found the house broken into and the weapon missing.
He said he had left the station on Wednesday night at about midnight after feeling unwell.
He left the weapon in the house and went to a chemist for medicine and it was then the alleged housebreaking happened.
On return, he further alleged that he found his house having been broken into and that the said firearm and ammunition were stolen.
His mobile phone was also stolen.
His neighbor’s house was also broken into but there was nothing that was stolen from there.
Police mounted a search in the area in vain as no recovery or arrest was made.
The officer was detained as investigations go on with an aim of disciplinary action and possible arraignment.
