Opposition leader Raila Odinga is urging the government to support and compensate the families affected by the recent gas explosion in Embakasi, Nairobi.
He emphasized the need for immediate assistance during his visit to the site of the tragedy.
“We want every family here to receive Ksh.500,000. This will help them start afresh. President Ruto needs to address this matter urgently,” stated Odinga.
Additionally, Odinga urged the government to relocate the displaced families to available housing units under the affordable housing project.

He criticized the government for permitting the operation of the gas plant in a residential area, posing risks to citizens’ safety.
“People need to be more vigilant. If our government was in power, swift action would have been taken. Those responsible for this incident must be held accountable,” Odinga remarked.
Expressing skepticism about the ongoing investigations, Odinga voiced concerns that the plant owner might escape punishment.
Following the incident, four individuals, including three NEMA officials and the plant owner, have been arrested. The prosecution has requested 21 days to conduct thorough investigations.
Raila Odinga’s appeal highlights the urgency of supporting the victims and ensuring accountability for the disaster.
