ODM leader Raila Odinga addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the ownership of Ofafa Memorial Hall in Kisumu on Friday.
He revealed that he holds the title deed, recounting the hall’s history and expressing surprise when some elders claimed ownership.
Describing the hall as a sacred place for the Luo Community, Odinga explained that he received the title deed after the demise of the Luo Union, and it was subsequently registered under the Luo Council of Elders.
During Mzee Odungi Randa’s 9th Ker coronation ceremony, Odinga acknowledged and named individuals who contributed to the hall’s construction.
He assured that the hall would undergo modernization, transforming into a cultural center to showcase the rich history of the Luo community.
Odinga emphasized that no one else should stake a claim to the hall.
In the midst of the ownership dispute, several structures at the center were recently demolished due to outstanding land rates amounting to Ksh.86 million.
Odinga also praised Ker Odungi Randa’s coronation, commending his unwavering commitment to Luo community unity.
He highlighted Randa’s loyalty during challenging times, including arrests and torture, while serving as one of the aides to the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
