Azimio la Umoja Leader Raila criticized Chief Justice Martha Koome’s decision to meet with President William Ruto at State House, deeming it irresponsible.
Speaking in Lamu County, Raila emphasized that if a meeting between the two was necessary to address the recent tensions between the Judiciary and the Executive, it should have taken place on neutral ground.
Raila pointed out, “State House is the home of the Executive.
That is where the president resides.
If there is going to be a dialogue over issues of governance, it should be held in a neutral place.”
He raised concerns about the potential compromise of the Judiciary by the Executive, stating, “The Judiciary is being held hostage by the Executive, and we’ve seen this before.
We saw it happen under the rule of Mr. Moi, and we’ve tried to caution the current CJ not to go to bed with the Executive.”

Raila described the meeting as an unfortunate development and expressed hope that other members of the Judiciary would not be compromised.
As previously reported, Ruto and Koome met on Monday at State House after weeks of tensions among the three branches of government.
President Ruto had criticized the Judiciary for rulings against his policies, alleging that bribes were influencing its members.
In response, CJ Koome defended the Judiciary, urging Ruto to present any evidence against judicial officers.
