Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio La Umoja Coalition Party, expressed regret and disapproval over the recent controversial statements made by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen regarding Rwanda’s governance.
On the Citizen TV Monday Report show, Murkomen remarked that Kenya should not be compared to Rwanda, describing Kigali as an autocracy where the president’s word is law.
In response, Raila Odinga criticized Murkomen’s comments, calling them unfortunate and accusing the Cabinet Secretary of using “intemperate and undiplomatic language” against Rwanda.
Odinga emphasized the importance of employing a more sophisticated etiquette in statecraft and diplomacy.
Odinga also took issue with Murkomen’s claim that Rwanda is comparable to Kenya’s Kajiado County due to its size, arguing that such coarse language against Rwanda is regrettable.
He clarified that the size of a country does not determine its greatness but rather its vision and leadership.
Odinga extended an apology to the Rwandese people, acknowledging the regrettable actions of a government influenced by power and corruption.
Quoting Odinga, “Yesterday, we opened another war with Rwanda through a cabinet secretary using intemperate and undiplomatic language against this friendly neighboring member of the East African Community.
Statecraft and diplomacy require a different and more sophisticated etiquette beyond expensive watches, suits, and walking sticks.”
He also addressed Murkomen’s statement about Rwanda being comparable to Kajiado County, stating, “The coarse language used against the great country and friendly people of Rwanda is most unfortunate.
Rwanda is the size of Switzerland and is actually bigger than Singapore.
It is not the size that makes nations but the vision and leadership.
To our Rwandese brothers and sisters, we apologize on the sins of a regime intoxicated by power and corruption.”
