Rigathi Gachagua Declares 2027 Presidential Bid, Vows To Challenge President Ruto

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially declared his intention to run for president in the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for a high-stakes political showdown with President William Ruto.

Speaking during a series of public engagements in Murang’a and Kiambu counties, Gachagua criticized the current state of governance, accusing the Ruto administration of abandoning the people’s needs in favor of public relations gimmicks, bribery, and the misuse of public funds.

“The strength of Kenya’s economy can only be achieved through strategic planning, dedicated leadership, and genuine commitment not through superficial PR, corruption, and misappropriation of public resources,” Gachagua said.

He accused unnamed government officials of using public money to buy political loyalty and enrich themselves at the expense of ordinary Kenyans.

“It is deeply discouraging to witness those entrusted with managing public resources divert them to buy support or enrich themselves. Such actions undermine our nation’s progress and betray the trust of the Kenyan people,” he added.

Addressing enthusiastic crowds in Mukuyu, Kiharu Constituency, and later in Ruiru and Kenol towns, Gachagua received warm receptions from residents who he claimed are increasingly disillusioned with the current leadership.

“Kenyans are not blind. They don’t need to be told what is happening or what hasn’t been done. The truth is staring them in the face. Nothing is working except corruption and handouts,” he said during a stop in Ruiru, where he condemned what he described as “daylight bribery.”

Gachagua maintained that no amount of political manipulation would sway the will of the people.

They have seen through the lies and are now more determined than ever. The movement for the liberation of Kenya is unstoppable it is WANTAM,” he declared, referencing a political slogan associated with his growing movement.

He reiterated his commitment to lead a people-driven government that prioritizes accountability, inclusion, and development.

“We shall liberate Kenya, no matter what. It is only a matter of time. 2027 is the year,” he stated.

“I am firmly in the presidential race for a better Kenya where every Kenyan participates in the governance of their country.”

Wrapping up his tour in Karatina Town, Gachagua thanked residents for their warm welcome and pledged continued engagement with the grassroots. “I am with you every step of the way,” he said.

If Gachagua’s ambitions materialize, it would mark a historic challenge a sitting Deputy President openly contesting against the President he serves under, potentially reshaping the political landscape ahead of 2027.
