President William Ruto has praised the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Zhou Pingjian, for his outstanding efforts in strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
Speaking during a farewell meeting at State House Nairobi, the president emphasized that Kenya and China have built a strong and enduring partnership over the years, benefiting both nations and their people.
President Ruto highlighted the mutual progress achieved through the collaboration, particularly in infrastructure, education, transport, and water projects.
He specifically noted the Standard Gauge Railway, superhighways, bypasses, and the development of technical colleges as significant milestones that reflect the deepening ties between the two nations.
Ambassador Pingjian, who is concluding his four-year tenure, is the 17th ambassador since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kenya and China 61 years ago.
His departure has been marked with praise from various leaders, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Deputy President Kindiki expressed gratitude for Ambassador Pingjian’s tenure, emphasizing the growth of both people-to-people and government-to-government relations.
He also underscored the progress made through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and infrastructure projects under bilateral cooperation.
Kindiki acknowledged Pingjian’s role in elevating Kenya’s position in China’s diplomatic engagement with Africa and expressed hope for further collaboration to benefit both nations.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi also commended Pingjian for his dedication and contributions to Kenya-China relations, reaffirming the country’s enduring strategic partnership with China.
Mudavadi noted that this partnership continues to create transformative opportunities, drive economic growth, and deliver sustainable progress.
He concluded by wishing Ambassador Pingjian success in his next assignment in Beijing.
Pingjian is widely regarded as one of the most influential and well-liked ambassadors within Kenya’s political circles.
