Safaricom continues to assert its dominance in Kenya’s telecommunications industry, according to the latest report by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
The telco giant has once again captured the largest share of revenue from voice, data, SMS, and mobile services.
In the voice services sector, Safaricom leads with an impressive 74.2% share of the revenue, leaving its competitor Airtel far behind at 21%, while Telkom Kenya lags further with just 4.5%.
The dominance extends to data services, where Safaricom also holds a commanding 74.8% share, with Airtel at 18.3% and Telkom Kenya at 5%.
The report also highlights Safaricom’s stronghold in SMS services, where it commands 70% of the revenue, followed by Airtel with 22.8%, and Finserve Limited at 7.2%.
Safaricom’s standout performer remains its mobile money service, M-Pesa, which continues to drive substantial revenue growth for the company.
Under the Other Mobile Services category, M-Pesa leads with a staggering 92.7% of revenue, while Airtel and Telkom Kenya hold just 1.5% and 0.7%, respectively.
The company’s success is attributed to its robust infrastructure investments. As of the close of its 2024 financial year, Safaricom has deployed over 803 active 5G sites across 43 counties.
Additionally, it has laid 17,000 kilometers of fiber-optic cables, enhancing internet connectivity to homes and businesses nationwide.
Safaricom’s market share stands at 65.9%, far outpacing its closest competitor, Airtel, which holds around 29%.
The company has also expanded its footprint regionally, with its entry into Ethiopia marking a significant milestone.
Since launching in the country, Safaricom has attracted 4.35 million subscribers, further diversifying its revenue streams.
With continued investment in infrastructure and customer acquisition, Safaricom remains the dominant player in Kenya’s telecom industry, solidifying its position as the leader in both voice and mobile data services.
