Safaricom is offering a special promotion in celebration of its 24th anniversary, refunding the transaction fee for the first M-PESA send money transaction of the day.
In a tweet posted on Wednesday, the telecom giant thanked its customers for their continued support over the years, stating, “Asante kwa miaka 24.
Enjoy a refund on your transaction fee for the first send money transaction today.”
The offer is available to M-PESA users through the M-PESA app or by dialing *344#.
However, Safaricom noted that the promotion is only valid for today, making it a limited-time offer.
Earlier this year, Safaricom reported significant financial success, announcing Sh139.9 billion in earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) for the period ending March 31, 2024.
This marked a solid performance, surpassing market expectations and the company’s own forecast range of Sh129 billion to Sh132 billion.
At the group level, which includes operations in Safaricom Ethiopia, EBIT stood at Sh 94.9 billion, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 3.5%.
Safaricom attributed this performance to a range of factors, including enhanced customer segmentation, public sector digitization efforts, and strategic investments in new technologies.
The use of data analytics also helped the company better understand and meet customer needs.
Throughout its history, Safaricom has frequently rewarded its customers during anniversary celebrations.
When the company celebrated its 20th anniversary, for example, all Safaricom customers enjoyed one free call lasting up to 20 minutes.
Additionally, loyal customers who had been with the network for two decades were gifted 20GB of free data, valid for seven days.
Tunukiwa customers also received a free 20-minute call to any network through the *444# menu.
At the time, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa reflected on the company’s evolution, stating, “In the past two decades, Safaricom has grown from a telecommunications provider to a technology company.
Our customers have played a key role in this journey, and we are committed to leveraging technology and a data-driven economy to support Kenya’s growth over the next 20 years.”
