The Senate Public County Investments and Special Funds Committee has called upon former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu to address pressing issues related to the Kitui County Textile Center’s financial difficulties.
The committee’s recent session focused on examining the financial statements of the textile center for the fiscal years 2019/20, 2020/21, and 2021/22.
After analyzing the Auditor General’s reports for these years, they identified significant management and financial problems that jeopardize the center’s operations and long-term viability.
While the committee initially summoned the current Kitui Governor Julius Malombe to discuss these issues, it was determined that the former governor, Charity Ngilu, was more appropriate to address the financial concerns given her prior role.
“The committee issues a summons, in accordance with Article 125 of the Constitution and Sections 18 and 20 of the Parliamentary (Powers and Privileges) Act, 2017, for former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu,
past senior management officials, and all individuals who signed the financial statements for the Kitui County Textile Center during the fiscal years 2019/2020, 2020/2021, and 2021/2022,” stated Osotsi, the committee chair.
Additionally, Governor Malombe has been asked to provide several reports and pieces of information within three days.
This includes a status report on the center, a list of the Board of Directors with their contact details, and information on the signatories of the center’s bank accounts.
The Committee has also invited the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to join a meeting scheduled for next month to further investigate the financial issues at the Kitui County Textile Center.
