A seven-year-old boy died after he was electrocuted by dangling electrical wires while playing outside his home in Buoye Village, Kolwa East Location, Kisumu East Sub-County.
The victim, a Grade Two pupil at Bright Academy Buoye, was reportedly playing near the family’s house when he came into contact with the live wires hanging close to the roof.
According to police, the boy’s mother had left for work when she received a phone call from a neighbour informing her that her son had been electrocuted.
She rushed home and took the child to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers from Ragumo Police Station, accompanied by Kenya Power officials, visited the scene and commenced investigations into the fatal incident.
The body was moved to the JOOTRH mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Authorities are investigating how the dangling electrical wires came to pose the fatal danger.
And a 56-year-old man died following a suspected electrocution incident at his home in Saini Village, Kimilili Sub-County, Bungoma County.
The victim, identified as Zebedayo Wanjala, is believed to have been taking a bath behind his house on Monday night when he was electrocuted.
According to preliminary police investigations, Wanjala may have come into contact with a clothesline attached to the iron-sheet roof of the house, where an electricity cable had reportedly drooped onto the roofing.
His wife heard him scream and raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the scene.
They managed to detach him from the live wire and rushed him to hospital while he was unconscious.
Police officers visited the scene and launched investigations into the incident.
The electrocution also caused a power outage in the area, and Kenya Power officials were notified to respond.
Authorities are awaiting confirmation from the hospital on the circumstances of the man’s death as investigations continue.
