The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced preparations for a new contracting cycle for healthcare providers and facilities, covering a period of nearly three years.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, September 9, SHA invited healthcare providers, their representative associations and other stakeholders to review proposed contracts and submit their views.
The new contracting period will run from October 1, 2026, to June 30, 2029.
SHA said the proposed agreements cover services under the Primary Health Care Fund (PHCF), Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).
The authority said the contracting process is guided by the Social Health Insurance Act, which requires SHA to contract healthcare providers and facilities after they have been inspected, licensed and certified by the relevant authorities.
Healthcare providers and other interested parties have been invited to submit comments, recommendations and written memoranda on the proposed contracts through SHA’s designated online feedback platform.
The deadline for submissions is Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
SHA is also holding virtual sensitisation sessions for healthcare facilities across all 47 counties to explain the new contracting arrangements and address questions from providers.
Facilities at Levels 5 and 6 are scheduled for sessions on Wednesday, September 9, from 9am to noon, while Level 4 facilities will participate from 2pm to 4pm.

On Thursday, September 10, Level 3 facilities will attend from 9am to noon, followed by Level 2 facilities from 2pm to 4pm.
According to SHA, the sessions will explain the new electronic contracting process, contractual requirements and key obligations while giving providers an opportunity to seek clarification.
The announcement comes shortly after SHA extended the deadline for healthcare providers to meet Health Management Information System (HMIS) requirements.
SHA Chief Executive Officer Mercy Mwangangi announced on September 1 that the compliance deadline had been extended to September 30, 2026, giving providers an additional month to complete system configuration and other requirements.
Providers experiencing technical difficulties have been advised to seek assistance from the Digital Health Agency’s technical support team.
