An assistant chief in Alego Usonga sub-county is currently hospitalized in critical condition after being assaulted by a group of enraged youths while attempting to stop a night vigil, locally known as disco matanga.
According to police reports, the administrator responded to complaints of loud music emanating from a home in Nyalugunga ‘A’ village. Upon arrival, he discovered a night vigil underway and moved to silence the music, triggering a confrontation with youths armed with machetes and other weapons.
“The administrator responded to reports of loud music in his jurisdiction.
Upon arrival, he found a night vigil in progress and attempted to turn off the music. However, a group of young men armed with machetes and other weapons assaulted him,” the report stated.
Quick intervention by mourners attending the vigil prevented further harm to the assistant chief, who sustained severe head injuries during the assault.
He was promptly transported to Siaya County Referral Hospital, where he remains in unstable condition receiving medical attention.
Police and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the hospital to assess the extent of his injuries and gather evidence.
In response to the attack, law enforcement authorities launched a search operation leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old suspect believed to have orchestrated the assault.
A machete allegedly used in the attack was recovered as evidence.
The suspect is slated to appear in Siaya Magistrate’s Court to face charges related to the assault on the assistant chief.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Bondo sub-county, police apprehended a woman suspected of fatally stabbing her husband.
The incident occurred at their residence, after which the woman fled the scene.
Law enforcement agencies tracked down and arrested her.
Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, the husband succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Bondo sub-county hospital.
