Simone Biles, an American gymnast, has made history at the World Gymnastics Championships.
She won her second gold medal, becoming the most decorated gymnast ever.
Earlier this week, she helped the United States win a record seventh-team title.
On Friday, in Belgium, Simone Biles won the all-around gold with a score of 58.399 points.
This means she’s won more world and Olympic medals than any other gymnast, male or female.
Rebeca Andrade from Brazil, the defending champion, came second with a score of 56.766, and Biles’ American teammate, Shilese Jones, won the bronze with a score of 56.332.
This is a remarkable comeback for Simone Biles, who took a two-year break from the sport to focus on her mental health.
She’s now won her sixth all-around world title, adding to her total of 27 world medals, including 21 golds. She’ll compete in four more events over the weekend.
Simone Biles’ outstanding performance comes less than ten months before the Paris Olympics.
There was some late drama for Great Britain.
Jessica Gadirova, the 2022 world floor champion, withdrew from the all-around competition as a precaution.
Alice Kinsella replaced her and finished seventh with a score of 54.032, while her teammate Ondine Achampong came in 13th.
Kinsella admitted it was a surprise and a bit stressful for her to step in at the last minute.
Kinsella admitted the late call-up came as a shock, saying: “I only went [out] to do little bits and bobs like stretching, conditioning, and then I went off to get my foot rubbed, then my coach came over said, ‘Alice, you need to get your leotard on straight away.’
“I was a bit stressed, I didn’t really know what to do or say to anyone.”
