Social media influencer Scophine Aoko Otieno, known as Maverick Aoko, has been located after a worrying absence of almost ten days.
Her aide confirmed her whereabouts on Friday, revealing that she was found near the Kenya-Tanzania border.
According to the aide, an unidentified individual discovered Aoko outside their home and took her to a hospital.
“She’s been found at the Kenya-Tanzania border.
Her family received a call from the hospital,” the aide reported.
“Her father is en route to see her, and we will keep everyone updated. We appreciate the support during this difficult time.”
Aoko, who last posted on social media on October 22, raised concerns after vanishing shortly after making remarks about a notable government official referred to only as “F.”
Initially, her family suspected she may have gone into hiding due to safety concerns.
The aide expressed the family’s reluctance to report her missing to authorities, citing previous threats against Aoko.
“After her tweet about Mr. ‘F,’ she disconnected from social media, which we thought was a way to evade potential threats.
Now, we’re uncertain who to turn to for assistance,” the aide stated on Twitter.
The family is hopeful for Aoko’s safe return and is urging authorities to clarify her status, whether she has been abducted or is intentionally in hiding.
“If she was taken, we ask for her safe return. If she is hiding, we pray for her safety,” the aide added.
Just weeks prior to her disappearance, Aoko had experienced a break-in at her Nairobi home, an incident she kept private to avoid raising alarms about her safety.
Reports from her security team indicated that unknown individuals had been inquiring about her.
“Upon her return to Nairobi, she found her door severely damaged. She was understandably frightened and opted to maintain a low profile,” her aide shared.
“Her caretaker and security guard noted suspicious behavior, including strange men asking about her whereabouts.”
As the family awaits more information, they remain hopeful for Aoko’s well-being and are grateful for the public’s concern and support during this challenging time.
