Jeremy Gordin, a veteran journalist, was killed on Friday night at his house in Parkview, Johannesburg, in what was described as a “robbery gone wrong.”
SurgeZirc reported that Deborah, his wife, confirmed to SurgeZirc SA that he was murdered during a robbery.
Col Mavela Masondo, a police spokesperson, stated that a case of house robbery and murder had been opened.
“No arrests have been made yet, but an investigation and manhunt for the suspects are underway”.
SurgeZirc SA has learned that Gordin’s family was in Cape Town and was concerned when he did not respond to messages on Friday night.
A friend gained access to Gordin’s home, which had been locked from the outside, and discovered that it had been ransacked and his corpse had been covered.
Deborah, his wife, said she was traveling home from Cape Town on Saturday evening. She was unable to provide any other information.
“As far as I understand, the only thing that was stolen was his car. I’ve had a brief conversation with the Colonel, and they were trying to get information about him, such as his ID,” she said.
On Saturday, police spent the majority of the day scrubbing the scene and searching for clues.
Gordin worked as an editor for The Star and The Sunday Independent and wrote Zuma: A Biography.
He was a regular columnist for Politicsweb in recent years.
Gordin was born in Pretoria in 1952 and attended both the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Unisa. In 1976, he began his journalism career.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah, and their two children, Jake and Nina.
