A 58-year-old woman was raped on her way home in Selection Park on Friday night.
The victim claims she was walking across Nigel Road when she saw a suspicious-looking man.
She reached Rodger Street, and while walking, heard a noise behind her and saw the man following her.
“She started running, but the man hit her on the back of her head with an object. She turned around to try and fight him, but he took out a knife and strangled her,” explained Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the communications officer of the Springs Police Station.
The victim managed to grab the knife and throw it away.
“At this point, he tripped her, and she fell backward. He removed her skirt and underwear and raped her. He also robbed her of R300,” added Tshabalala.
After the rape, he told her to take her clothes and go home.
The next day, the woman went to look for him and found him in one of the local taverns.
“She told the security guards that he raped her. But he ran away. The security managed to take a photo of him before he got away,” said Tshabalala.
No arrests were made.
