The government has allocated Sh3,492,591,500 for the Inua Jamii programme to support the September payment cycle.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection announced that this funding will benefit 1,739,919 Kenyans enrolled in the programme.
Principal Secretary Joseph Motari explained that the current payroll includes funds for Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) and additional top-ups for 22,217 beneficiaries, totaling Sh12,753,500.
“Payments began on Friday, October 4, 2024, with each beneficiary set to receive Sh2,000 for the September 2024 cycle,” he stated.
The Inua Jamii programme is a government cash transfer initiative designed to assist the most vulnerable members of the community by providing financial support to alleviate poverty and hunger while improving their quality of life.
The ministry has committed to enhancing the efficiency and accountability of the Inua Jamii cash transfers to broaden its coverage, in alignment with the Kenya Kwanza Manifesto, which aims to uplift vulnerable senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
While monitoring payments for the July-August 2022 and September-October 2022 cycles in Kajiado, Motari assured beneficiaries of timely and efficient payments.
“We want to assure Inua Jamii beneficiaries that the government will release their funds promptly to protect the vulnerable and elderly from poverty,” he emphasized.
However, he urged beneficiaries nationwide to utilize the stipends wisely to improve their living conditions.
