State House Kenya’s Media Relations Director, Najma Ismail, has issued a statement denying rumors about a State of the Nation address by President William Ruto.
On Monday, October 7, Najma clarified that reports suggesting the president would make a statement at 4:00 pm are false and did not originate from the Presidential Communication Service (PCS).
The misinformation circulating online claimed that President Ruto would address the nation concerning the ongoing and contentious impeachment proceedings against his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
These reports come amid growing anticipation regarding the president’s stance on the issue, as he has maintained silence while Gachagua faces mounting efforts to clear his name.
Meanwhile, Deputy President Gachagua has announced he will hold a press conference at his official Karen residence at 7:00 pm, ahead of his scheduled appearance in the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 8.
He will address the House regarding the impeachment motion that lists 11 grounds for his removal, including allegations of divisive actions and misconduct.
In response to the impeachment motion, a total of 19 cases have been filed to prevent Gachagua’s ouster.
Parliament has since requested that the High Court consolidate these cases.
On October 7, High Court Judge Bahati Mwamuye once again declined to issue an order stopping the impeachment process, reinforcing the legal hurdles Gachagua faces.
During a church service in Karen on Sunday, October 6, Gachagua issued a public apology to President Ruto and Members of Parliament, asking for forgiveness for any wrongdoings.
He stated, “To my brother, President William Ruto, if in our zeal to work, I have wronged you, please find it in your heart to forgive me.
To our MPs, if through our actions or words we have wronged you, I ask for your forgiveness.”
In recent poll results from Tifa, regional opinions regarding Gachagua’s impeachment have varied.
While a majority in Mount Kenya supports the Deputy President, believing he is fulfilling his duties well, 35 percent of Kenyans favor his removal, accusing him of favoring his own community in his actions.
