A son of Sudan’s army chief and de-facto leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has been seriously injured in a road accident in Turkey, according to a local media report.
Mohammed Fattah al-Burhan Rahmane was involved in a collision with a utility vehicle while riding his motorbike in Ankara, Turkey’s capital, on Thursday, as reported by the DHA news agency.
He was thrown several meters off his bike due to the impact and subsequently transferred to a hospital, where he was admitted to intensive care.
The Sudanese embassy in Ankara did not immediately provide a comment on the incident.
In the ongoing conflict since April, Burhan has been engaged in hostilities with his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who leads the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
This rift emerged following a joint military coup in 2021, which disrupted Sudan’s fragile democratic transition.
Tens of thousands have lost their lives in the conflict, with reports suggesting up to 15,000 casualties in a single town in West Darfur, as stated by United Nations experts
Moreover, the economy has suffered significant damage, infrastructure has been destroyed, and over eight million individuals have been displaced from their homes, according to UN data.
