Police in Machakos have apprehended a man suspected of trafficking narcotics, specifically 200 kilograms of bhang valued at approximately sh. 6.9 million.
The suspect, identified as James Otieno Odero, was arrested after authorities intercepted his vehicle on Mombasa Road while en route to Kikima in Mbooni, Makueni County.
Investigations indicate that Odero had been transporting the illicit substance from Migori, passing through Machakos before reaching Makueni.
During the arrest, officers discovered that he was driving a Toyota Wish and had six different number plates in his possession, suggesting he may have been altering them to evade police checkpoints.
The number plate displayed on his vehicle at the time of the arrest was KBT 144V, while another, KCC 166C, was shown on the insurance documents.
The additional plates found include KBY 510P, KCC 611C, KBL 458N, and KDD 470N.
Upon interrogation, the suspect was unable to produce an identity card or a driving license, raising further suspicions among the authorities.
In a related operation, the local county security team also destroyed 10 gambling machines in the town, signaling ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities in the area.
