Suspects In Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu’s Murder Released Over Lack Of Evidence

Three individuals who were arrested in connection with the murder of prominent lawyer Kyalo Mbobu have been released after investigators failed to link them to the crime.

According to Maulid Bare, the defense lawyer representing the trio, the suspects were freed on Saturday, September 13, after a thorough investigation failed to produce any forensic or circumstantial evidence implicating them in the killing.

The three had reportedly been among the last people to interact with Mbobu before he was fatally shot in a drive-by attack on Magadi Road, Nairobi, on the evening of Tuesday, September 9.

Speaking to the press, Bare sharply criticized the arrests, calling them “malicious, unjustified, and a reckless abuse of police powers.”

“We wish to make it clear that the forensic phone analysis, the ballistic examination of the firearm, and the independently verified alibis have all conclusively exonerated the three from any connection whatsoever to the murder,” he stated.

Kyalo Mbobu, a respected lawyer with over 30 years of experience, was gunned down shortly after 7:30 p.m. near the Galleria Brookside area while driving home. Witnesses say the attack was carried out by an unknown assailant on a motorcycle, who fled the scene immediately after opening fire.

The murder sent shockwaves through Kenya’s legal and political circles, with calls for swift justice and improved protection for legal professionals.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, in a press briefing on Thursday, September 11, confirmed that investigations were ongoing and that more suspects were being identified.

“We have been in touch with the DCI since this incident occurred, and I am happy to note that there is some progress. Some persons of interest have been identified,” Murkomen said.

“Those persons of interest are being interrogated, and many others will be sought. We thank the eyewitnesses who were at the scene and others who are coming forward with information,” he added.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) continues to lead the probe, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward as the hunt for the perpetrators intensifies.
