On Friday, February 7, an unexplained fire broke out inside a tire store in Nairobi’s Eastleigh Estate, seriously damaging unused tires among other items. Just after midday, the fire broke out across from Pumwani Maternity Hospital on General Waruingi Street. It swiftly spread to nearby structures, increasing the extent of the damage. Locals gathered at the site, some watching from a distance while others tried to recover items from the damaged buildings. As rescue personnel toiled tirelessly to contain the fire, footage and photographs from the scene revealed that at least three buildings were covered in dense smoke. Soon after, firefighters from the Nairobi County Government arrived and put out the fire, however property of unknown value had already been destroyed. Although the precise number of injuries is unknown, two ambulances were sent to the area to help any victims. Additionally, police officers were on hand to assist in controlling the swarming mob. Residents are speculating about the possible sources of the fire, as the cause of the incident has not yet been established. The number of fire events in Kenya in 2025 is increasing as a result of this fire. Similar circumstances happened in Kericho Town on January 28, when a fire damaged multiple homes, displacing 19 families. Just before midnight, the fire in Kericho began in a residence close to the National Bank Office and swiftly spread to adjacent structures. According to the Kenya Red Cross, a rescue team was sent to Kericho and helped stabilize a person who was inhaling smoke there. With assistance from the Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Police, and members of the local community, the Kericho County Fire Brigade was able to contain the fire, which had affected 19 residences in all.
