A Fourth year United States International University (USIU) student died by suicide at her apartment in Thome estate, Kasarani on Saturday night.
Police have launched investigations into the death adding that the deceased left behind a suicide note.
“The body was transferred to the mortuary and the Tanzanian Embassy informed. Investigations have also been launched to establish what transpired,” police said.
The body of Violet Bijura was found hanging from the door frame of her bedroom on a white bedsheet around her neck.
Family members told the police that the deceased was suffering from depression. The body was transferred to Kenyatta University Funeral Home.
According to police records, over 10 people have committed suicide across the country in the last 5 days.
On Saturday, Lewis Ngugi 37 also died by suicide inside his rented house in Mwiki using an electric cable, according to his brother.
On Friday, in Kabune location Imenti North in Meru County, Leaky Mutwiri Muriithi 22 was found dangling from the roof rafters. The area Assistant Chief Leonard Kathurima said the deceased was addicted to sniffing glue. No suicide note was found.
In another case on Thursday last week, the body of Melab Nasimiyu 65 was found hanging from an avocado tree with a bedsheet around her neck in Kibingei location in Kimilili, Bungoma County. Police said no suicide note was found.
The same day in Kimamoi village in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County the body of Hezron Kemboi 19 was also found hanging from the roof top with a sisal rope around his neck. No suicide note was found.
In another incident reported the same day, Boniface Kichinda 51 hanged himself using a manila rope in Aram, Rarieda Siaya County. The deceased was working at the residence of his US-based aunt. The body is at Madiany Sub-County hospital.
On Wednesday November 16, in Amalemba village Kakamega County Metrine Minayo 27 also attempted to commit suicide by locking herself in a poorly ventilated shop with a charcoal jiko burning. She was rescued and later arrested.
Police have however said all death investigations should be conducted as murder investigations until facts prove differently. There are cases where autopsies revealed that the victims were actually murdered and did not commit suicide.
