In a shocking revelation, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that there were two failed assassination attempts against him, suggesting these plots were orchestrated by security agencies amid an ongoing impeachment process.
Speaking to the media after his release from Karen Hospital on Sunday, Gachagua detailed these alarming incidents.
The first alleged attempt occurred in Kisumu at the end of August, followed by a second attempt in Nyeri just days later.
Gachagua noted that his team successfully identified the poison intended for him, allowing him to escape unharmed.
“The first incident happened on August 30 in Kisumu, where undercover agents infiltrated my room and tried to poison my food.
Thankfully, we detected the poison in time and thwarted their scheme,” he explained.
The second attempt, on September 3, reportedly involved a team from the National Intelligence Service, which sought to poison food meant for both him and the Kikuyu council of elders in Nyeri.
Fearing for his safety, Gachagua reported these threats to the NIS and requested the reassignment of officers assigned to him.
“After these assassination attempts failed, that’s when the impeachment motion against me was introduced,” Gachagua claimed, raising serious questions about the political motivations behind these events.
His startling allegations have reverberated through political circles, igniting concerns about security in the current political climate.
Gachagua described the incidents not only as personal threats but also indicative of a broader atmosphere of tension and hostility within the political landscape.
He emphasized the potential implications of such attempts on democracy and governance, advocating for increased security measures for all political leaders.
These claims have sparked speculation about the motives behind the threats and the identities of those who may be involved.
Political analysts suggest that these revelations reflect the intense rivalries and divisions plaguing the region’s politics in recent years.
As this story develops, the emphasis remains on the necessity for open dialogue and a commitment to peaceful political engagement.
The seriousness of Gachagua’s accusations has underscored the importance of protecting political figures and fostering an environment where differing opinions can exist without fear of violence.
