Police in Kisumu are investigating a theft that occurred at Lumumba Hospital, where unknown suspects broke into the maternity ward and stole mobile phones from patients who were asleep.
The theft took place around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, when the intruders scaled the hospital’s perimeter wall to gain access.
According to John Oywa, Kisumu County’s Chief Officer for Communication, Public Affairs, and Special Programs, both the police and hospital management are actively working to resolve the case.
The hospital administrator and security officers who were on duty during the incident have already given statements to the police to aid in the investigation.

These measures include reinforcing the existing perimeter fences and installing electric fences at health facilities across the county.
The county is also reorganizing its security personnel to ensure better protection. Any security staff found to have been negligent will face disciplinary action.
Oywa has apologized to those affected by the theft and assured the public that steps are being taken to improve security and prevent such occurrences.
The county government is committed to ensuring that patients and their belongings are safe within healthcare facilities.
