Three women appeared in the Eldoret Court in connection with a shocking assault on a 24-year-old woman in Uasin Gishu County.
The accused, Monicah Jeptum, Joyce Jerobon, and Caroline Jerotich, allegedly attacked the victim by inserting pepper into her private parts, punishing her for allegedly having affairs with their husbands.
The incident occurred on October 1, 2024, at Kapseret Market.
According to police reports, the three women ambushed the victim as she was on her way to the market.
They accused her of being involved with their spouses and then tricked her into one of their houses. Inside, they stripped her naked and carried out the assault.
The victim cried for help, and witnesses nearby rushed to the scene, finding her in extreme distress.
The victim sustained severe injuries, particularly to her private parts, and was treated for additional wounds inflicted during the assault as she tried to resist her attackers.
Police investigations led to the arrest of the three women after the victim filed a complaint.
Eyewitnesses also provided statements corroborating the victim’s account, and these witnesses are expected to testify during the court proceedings.
The suspects were charged with sexual assault under the Sexual Offences Act of 2007, along with a second charge of physical assault.
When they appeared before Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Mogire Onkoba, all three pleaded not guilty.
The court, however, released them on a cash bail of Sh 100,000 each and set November 4, 2024, as the date for the case mention.
The police, who conducted extensive investigations, are preparing evidence that includes statements from the victim and witnesses.
The case has drawn attention due to the brutal nature of the attack, with many awaiting the upcoming court proceedings to see how justice unfolds.
