Three individuals lost their lives in a multi-vehicle collision in the Kapmakaa area of Kericho County.
The accident, which took place around 3:45 p.m., involved a total of five vehicles, according to Kericho County Traffic Enforcement Officer Selina Chirchir.
Chirchir reported that a Toyota Hiace matatu, traveling from Londiani to Kericho, was struck head-on by an oil tanker moving in the opposite direction on the Kericho-Mau Summit road.
The impact caused the matatu to roll over.
The tanker then collided with three additional cars that were following the matatu.
The fatalities included a woman and two men who were passengers in the matatu.
Several other passengers sustained various injuries and were transported to Kericho County Referral Hospital for treatment.
Fortunately, none of the drivers involved in the accident were injured.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Chirchir suggested that heavy rainfall in the region might have contributed to reduced visibility for drivers.
This incident follows another recent crash in the county, where three people died in a collision between an LPG gas truck and a government vehicle at Fort Tenan.
“We are advising drivers to pull over during poor visibility and to adhere strictly to all traffic regulations,” Chirchir emphasized.
