Gunmen believed to be al-Shabaab terrorists shot and wounded a motorist, his passenger, and a motorcyclist in Olla area, Rhamu, Mandera County.
Mohamed Hassan, 45 said he was driving a salon car when he was attacked by gunmen who were on the roadside along Banisa-Rhamu road.
He sustained a gunshot injury on his left leg while his passenger Ibrahim Hassan was also shot in his left leg.
One Adow Muhamed who was riding a motorcycle behind them was also shot in his left leg and stomach before the gunmen fled in the June 4 morning incident.
The victims were rescued and rushed to Rhamu Referral Hospital where they were admitted in serious condition.
Police said no arrest or recovery was made.
This came amid reports the terrorists have now crossed in large numbers and are roaming in the area.
On June 3, a member of the National Police Reserve was killed in an attack on a communication mast at a village town in Wajir near the Kenya-Somalia border.
The gang struck on June 3 morning at Ogaralle Town attacking the local Safaricom communication mast.
The mast is at the Ogaralle primary school where it is being guarded by NPR who responded prompting a shootout.
The attackers shot and killed one of the NPR who was guarding the mast before they retreated into a nearby bush.
No damage was reported on the mast they were targeting, officials said.
Tension remains high in the area amid fears the terrorists will come back to accomplish their mission.
Officials say there has been an increase in the sightings of al-Shabaab terrorists in the area amid fears they plan a major attack.
It also emerged the gang stole two rifles belonging to two police officers who had been killed earlier on in an attack by the same gang near the Kenya-Somalia border in Mandera rose to two.
Two police officers were killed on the Elele-Takaba road in Mandera on Friday, June 2 as a contingent of security officers from the Elele-based Quick Response Unit (QRU) were on patrol.
Five others were injured.
After their evacuation, it emerged the deceased rifles with more than 30 bullets each were missing.
The incident happened after the terrorists fired a rocket-propelled grenade targeting a Landcruiser pickup with elite officers in Mandera County.
The attackers fired rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) at the officers’ vehicle killing the two officers and injuring five others.
Police said the team had been patrolling the area following intelligence reports of the militants being sighted when they came under attack.
Officials say sightings of al-Shabaab militants in Mandera have increased following the recent rains.
Both the dead and the injured were airlifted to Nairobi.
At the same time, there are fears among non-locals in a village in Mandera County after gunmen believed to be al-Shabaab terrorists killed one of the reservists guarding them.
Mohamud Mohammed Abdulahi was ambushed and killed in his house about 500 meters from a place he and two others had been taking care of non-local teachers at Guticha primary school.
He was shot on May 29 at about 3 am after he went to his house within the Ashabito division.
Three reservists were guarding non-local teachers at the school following continued fears and report terror group al-Shabaab is targeting them for an attack.
This has sparked fears the gang could be planning to attack the non-local teachers who are sustaining the education system in the area.
Non-local teachers have in the past been targeted and killed by terrorists as a way of scaring them from the area.
This prompted owners of private schools to hire vigilante groups and police reservists to guard them.
This is the latest incident to happen in the area amid fears the terrorists are trying to set up a base there for a planned attack.
On May 22, multi-agency teams stopped a major planned terrorist attack and recovered an arsenal of weapons in an operation in Alango, Garrissa County.
Police said the team recovered six AK47 rifles, two Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), PKM, two grenades other items.
The team also found warheads, 20 magazines and a belt of 200 rounds, a cell phone, and a memory Card.
This is after the team raided an al-Shabaab camp in Alango in Garissa which militants planned to use to launch attacks in the County.
More personnel have been deployed in the area in efforts to tame the attacks.
The border region has borne the brunt of repeated attacks from the militants who are at times aided by locals.
Somalia has not had a stable government after the fall of Siad Barre in 1991.
The area is near the Somalia border and the militants usually cross at will and stage attacks before escaping back.
Al-Shabaab terrorists have been attacking places in the region, especially in Mandera and Garissa counties after breaching security zones, which left dozens of civilians and security officials dead and wounded.
The terrorists have been planting explosives on the routes used by the security agencies.
Kenyan troops are in Somalia to pursue and suppress the activities of the terror group.
