Three women have been charged in a Kibera court in connection with the alleged assault of a Norwegian national in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
Fihima Yusuf Abdillahi, Rayan Abukar Ali, and Hibo Mohamood Abdullahi are accused of jointly attacking Maria Abdisalam Ali on July 25 at Lenox Apartments in Dagoretti sub-county, resulting in bodily harm.
The defendants appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Samson Temu, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges.
They requested lenient bond terms, citing their innocence, and were granted bail of Sh10,000 each.
The case will be revisited on September 3.
The assault charges are part of a broader investigation into a gang reportedly operating in Kilimani.
This gang allegedly lures and assaults women, secretly photographing them for blackmail and extortion.
According to a complaint filed with the Inspector General of Police, a Norwegian national claimed she was targeted by this gang.
On July 26, she reported being assaulted by three women and two men, who also robbed her of cash and a mobile phone.
She was allegedly threatened into withdrawing her complaint.
The victim stated that she recognized some of the gang members and reported that they were armed with pistols during the attack.
She accused them of body-shaming her by taking compromising photos and videos, which they used to blackmail her for money.
In her complaint, the victim also expressed concerns about the response from Kilimani Police Station, alleging that officers were hesitant to take action against the suspects, whom she knew personally.
She reported the incident, which involves robbery with violence, attempted gang rape, and assault causing grievous bodily harm, under Occurrence Book (OB) number 02/26/07/2024.
The P3 form confirmed that she sustained injuries consistent with sexual assault.
