Police are looking for a gang that raided homes at a market in Rangwe and robbed residents before gang-raping a 19-year-old girl.
The gang of three armed with crude weapons went to the homes on Tuesday, April 24 morning, broke in, and robbed the residents of their valuables and cash.
Among the items that the gang robbed the families of include cash, five mobile phones, and an electric iron box, and later transferred Sh2,000 from one of the victim’s mobile phones to another number.
They later dragged a 19-year-old girl who was in the house and raped her.
The girl told police two of the men raped her.
The gang proceeded to the next house and stole a 32-inch tv set, gas cooker, and woofer.
They broke into another house and stole two television sets and two gas cylinders.
A fourth house was broken into and a television set with a gas cylinder was stolen, residents said.
Police visited the scene minutes later but no arrest or recovery was made.
The girl was later taken to a local hospital for medical attention.
Police said a hunt on the gang is ongoing and that they were making good progress.
