TikTok Music, the new premium music subscription service, has made its debut in Indonesia and Brazil.
The service, licensed by Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music, offers users access to an extensive catalog of music and a range of features, including uninterrupted ad-free listening and offline downloading.
“It will make it easy for people in Indonesia and Brazil to save, download and share their favorite viral tracks from TikTok,” said Ole Obermann, Global Head of Music Business Development at TikTok.
TikTok Music’s arrival comes after Sony Music’s temporary removal from ByteDance’s previous music streaming app, Resso, in September.
However, TikTok has confirmed that “the company’s catalog is available again on Resso, and now on TikTok Music, as of Thursday, July 6.”
In a significant move, TikTok has also announced that “Resso will cease to operate in Indonesia and Brazil from September 5, 2023.”

Existing Resso users in these countries will have the option to transfer their accounts to the new TikTok Music app “with the click of a button.”
Described as a “social music streaming service,” the service aims to combine the power of music discovery on the TikTok platform with a high-quality streaming experience.
Users can enjoy “a full catalog of music from thousands of labels and artists, uninterrupted ad-free listening, and a download function for listening offline.”
“We are excited about the opportunities for the service, for music fans, artists and the industry,” said TikTok in response to inquiries about the service’s roll-out plans beyond Brazil and Indonesia, adding that “we don’t have anything to share on future plans.”
A key feature of TikTok Music’s is its ability to let users stream “full versions of viral TikTok songs.” This integration allows users to explore and enjoy the music they discover on the TikTok platform.
The launch of the service in Brazil and Indonesia offers new users a one-month free trial of the streaming service.
The costs for the new app are as follows:
- Brazil (iOS and Android): R$16.9 (approx USD $3.49)
- Indonesia (iOS): Rp 49,000 (approx USD $3.25)
- For Indonesia (Android), the cost is Rp 44,900 for the first 12 months, then Rp 49,000
The choice to launch it in Brazil and Indonesia can be attributed to TikTok’s substantial existing reach in both markets.
According to Datareportal, “Brazil is estimated to be TikTok’s third largest market with over 84 million users,” while “Indonesia, meanwhile, according to Datareportal is TikTok’s second-largest market with an estimated 113 million active TikTok users aged 18 and above.”
TikTok Music’s launch in Brazil, the world’s 9th largest music market, could pose a challenge to rival music streaming service Spotify.
Similarly, the launch in Indonesia and Southeast Asia is strategically important as Spotify has highlighted the region as a focus for its advertising business.
With TikTok Music’s arrival, users in Indonesia and Brazil can now immerse themselves in a premium music streaming experience while enjoying the wide array of features and content offered by the popular TikTok platform.
