Tragedy As Female Passenger Collapses And Dies At Kisumu Airport

A female passenger collapsed and died as she checked in at the Kisumu International Airport.

It is not clear what caused the death. Airport officials said Merisia Adhiambo, 69, was on Thursday morning scheduled to fly to Nairobi and had arrived at the airport ready to board when she collapsed at the screening point.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officials said she was to fly aboard a Kenya Airways flight at about 9 am.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Elsewhere in Kehancha, Migori County, a Tanzanian national collapsed and died at a gold mining site.

The deceased, identified as Masero Kidum, 21, had ventured into a shaft which was about 30 feet deep when he collapsed and died on Thursday morning.

The body was retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and probe.

A number of miners have died in gold mining sites in a worrying trend in the area.

In Ndori, Rarieda, Siaya County, one miner died after a gold mining site collapsed on them in Lumba village.

Police said there were seven miners in the tunnel when it collapsed and trapped the victim.

The other six managed to escape with slight injuries.

The body was later retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Some villagers in the area venture into the tunnel for gold to make a living, oblivious of the dangers lurking.
