Popular Super Metro conductor Gerald Mwangi Njoroge, affectionately known as Makanga Bae, has tragically passed away following a severe accident that resulted in the amputation of one of his legs.
The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving his fans and many Kenyans mourning the loss of a beloved figure.
A close family source confirmed that Mwangi succumbed to his injuries, prompting an appeal for financial assistance to cover the substantial hospital bills.
“Yes, Mwangi passed away after the accident.
We ask for support from Kenyans to help us settle the hospital bill, which is huge,” she said.
On October 10, Super Metro had urgently called for blood donations to aid Mwangi after he was involved in a work-related accident.
“Mwangi got into an accident while on duty, and he urgently needs our support.
Kindly let’s help him,” they posted on their social media.
The tragic incident occurred at the ABC roundabout when the driver suddenly applied the emergency brakes, causing Mwangi to be thrown from the vehicle.
In the aftermath, the bus rolled over him, resulting in critical injuries.
He was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he remained in a coma until his passing.
Mwangi was a well-known figure, especially among Kenyan women, who admired his charisma and looks.
In a previous interview, he shared that his mother was initially surprised by his choice to work in public transportation despite having a formal education.
“My mother was shocked.
She asked how I could be educated and still choose to work as a conductor,” he recalled.
At just 28 years old, Mwangi was open about the attention he received due to his appearance, emphasizing the trust he shared with his partner.
“I get attention from people all the time.
My woman has access to my phone. She knows about the attention I get from strangers while I’m working,” he said.
Super Metro, the shuttle service that employed Mwangi, is known for its extensive network of routes, primarily in Nairobi, and has expanded its operations to other regions across the country.
The company, like many others, is now grappling with the loss of a cherished member of their team as they reflect on the impact Mwangi had on both their service and the community.
