On Saturday evening, a devastating accident in Timau, Meru County, resulted in the deaths of seven people and left many others seriously injured.
A lorry, transporting construction blocks from Meru to Timau, lost control and veered off the road, colliding with a motorcycle and several pedestrians.
According to the police, the incident occurred at 6:20 p.m. “It hit the motorcycle which was removed from the scene to an unknown destination.
Thereafter it knocked down several pedestrians, rolled severally, and landed in a ditch,” stated a report from the Timau Police Station.
The victims included four men, two women, and a girl.
The motorcycle rider was among those who succumbed to their injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at the Timau Sub-County Hospital.
Several passengers sustained severe injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals by good Samaritans, as reported by the police.
