In Mali, a terrible accident occurred on Tuesday when a bus fell off a bridge, resulting in the loss of thirty-one lives.
The bus was traveling from Kenieba, Mali, to Burkina Faso when it swerved off the bridge over the Bagoe River.
Along with the fatalities, at least ten individuals sustained injuries, some of them severe.
Authorities suspect that the primary reason for this tragic incident was “the driver’s failure to control the vehicle.” The mishap took place around 17:00 local time (17:00 GMT).
According to the transport ministry, “A bus departing from Kenieba commune to Burkina Faso tipped off a bridge.
The likely cause is the driver losing control of the vehicle.”
The victims belonged to Mali as well as other parts of West Africa.
This dreadful event highlights the ongoing risks on Mali’s roads due to their poor condition, inadequately maintained vehicles, and insufficient regulation of public transportation.
Earlier this month, another accident claimed fifteen lives and left forty-six injured when a bus collided with a truck on its way to the capital, Bamako, as reported by AFP news agency.
