In a distressing turn of events, a 30-year-old woman identified as Sheila Chepkoech from Sigowet-Soin sub-County, Kericho County, has been found dead by suspected suicide.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting law enforcement to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.
According to reports from the authorities, Chepkoech’s lifeless body was discovered hanging by the neck in her home’s compound, with initial indications suggesting that she had utilized a mosquito net in the act.
Her sister-in-law, who made the grim discovery, recounted her futile attempts to rescue Chepkoech, revealing that she was already deceased upon her arrival.
Peter Nthiga, the area police commander, confirmed that investigations were underway to ascertain the factors that may have led Chepkoech to take her own life.
The body has been transferred to the Sigowet Sub County Hospital mortuary as part of the ongoing investigation.
“We have launched investigations into the incident. For now, we haven’t determined the motivation. We are talking to family members.
We will have full details on this matter in due course,” stated Nthiga.
In light of this tragic event, Nthiga issued a heartfelt plea to young families in the region, emphasizing the importance of seeking counseling and support when faced with marital or personal challenges.
He highlighted a concerning trend of rising domestic violence cases reported at the station, urging individuals to address issues constructively rather than resorting to extreme measures.
“Marital problems are real and you cannot run away from them if you are married. What matters is how you resolve them. Seek help when you need it to avoid pushing each other to an early grave,” emphasized Nthiga.
